Volunteer Sign Up:
For volunteers, there will be 2 shifts per day, 5 p.m.-1 a.m. and 12 a.m.-8 a.m. We are seeking 2 volunteers per shift to assist with dinner and cleanup, monitor the center overnight for emergencies or issues, and assist with distributing breakfast items in the morning.

RCHA staff will be at the center from 3-6 p.m. and 7-8 a.m. the following day to do intake, provide referrals, and offer case management services. Volunteers will NOT be responsible for storing the belongings of guests in the warming center, check-in/out will be managed by staff.
The center will operate when nighttime temperatures drop below freezing for two consecutive nights, and right now our estimated start date is looking to at December 15th .
Official volunteer schedules will be confirmed ahead of the start date. Please feel free to share these two sign-up options with anyone who may be interested in volunteering, and all help is greatly appreciated. Winter Shelters are operated by community-based organizations, volunteer groups, and communities of faith across Randolph County.
Hours of operation and criteria for opening will be determined.
However, Winter Shelters typically open when overnight temperatures
are expected to be below 32 degrees F.
Location will be off the 5-Lane in Elkins

Winter Shelter Services:
- A warm, dry place to sleep
- A meal served nightly
- Benefits and service coordination Housing assistance
- Winter clothing, hygiene kits, and other necessities Information and referrals to essential human services.
Shelter Expectations for Guests Staying the night
The Shelter is committed to serving all eligible individuals and works to promote a safe environment for all individuals being served. To keep a safe environment, the following behaviors have been identified as reasons for asking a guest to leave.
▪ Physical threats
▪ Verbal threats of violence or harm
▪ Physical violence to staff, volunteers or other guests
▪ Sexual misconduct and/or assault
▪ Direct observation of participant engaging in illegal activity on site
▪ The use of or selling of illegal substances ON the site premises
▪ Activities that put the site at risk (arson, destruction of property, having a firearm)
